Casting

Casting is defined as the act of propelling or projecting a baited hook or lure over the water. It is one of the basic skills required when using a rod and reel outfit to fish. However, not all styles of sports fishing requires one to know how to cast.

The only way to emulate seasoned casters is to practice. Never try too much too soon. Start with a short range cast and then progress to greater distances. This also applies when casting unfamiliar tackle.

There are a variety of casting methods being practised. The basic methods (caught on video) would include the following:

single-handed threadline (overhead)
single-handed threadline (side)
single-handed baitcaster (overhead)
